The Problem
Our clients in Penpont, near Dumfries, approached us with a kitchen that had real potential but was falling short in practicality. The main issue was a lack of usable worktop space, made difficult by two well-positioned but restrictive windows. These windows severely limited where appliances could be placed, and the room’s layout felt disjointed and awkward as a result.
The Solution
This was one of those jobs where we really got to use our creativity and problem-solving skills. Working closely with our CAD programme, we set about designing a layout that would work with the space rather than against it. The breakthrough came with the decision to install a ceiling extractor fan. This allowed us to position the hob on a diagonal base unit below, freeing up more continuous worktop space without obstructing the light from the windows.
From there, the rest of the kitchen came together beautifully. We installed sleek Minerva worktops that gave us the flexibility to shape the space with a seamless finish. Their solid surface allowed us to integrate features like drainer grooves and curved edges with precision, adding both style and practicality. The stunning units chosen by the client completed the look, adding warmth and character while maintaining a clean and modern aesthetic.
The Outcome
The end result is a kitchen that now works as well as it looks. We were thrilled to deliver a space that not only solved the initial layout problem but also became a real centrepiece of the home. Our clients now have plenty of usable worktop space, an efficient cooking area and a bright, open room that is perfect for entertaining.
This was a rewarding project that shows what is possible when design and practicality come together.
